1. Introduction

In this document you will find instructions on how to update the Nord Electro OS to v3.00. Your current OS version is showed in the Nord Electro's display during the start up sequence.

2. Important Notes

This OS uses a new format for the piano samples. In practice this means that

all the pianos in the Nord Electro also needs to be updated.

Use the "Nord Electro Tool v3.0" application to transfer the new "Piano Sample Library v3.0" to the Nord Electro. The tool and the Piano Library are available for download at Clavia's web page www.clavia.se or on the "Nord Software CD"

For more information regarding installation of the tool, refer to the "ReadMe.htm" document for the "Nord Electro Tool v3.0" application. Also consider the "Electro Tool Man v2.0 (en).pdf" document for instructions on how the tool is operated.

3. Update Instructions

3.1 Update Nord Electro OS

Connect MIDI In and Out on the Nord Electro to your computer's MIDI interface. Run the "Update Nord Electro OS v3.00" utility and follow the instructions carefully.

When the dump and storage of the new OS is complete, the Nord Electro automatically reboots and switches to normal operation. You don't have to restart the instrument.

When the Nord Electro starts for the first time with the new OS, the piano type selector LED will flash to indicate that there is no valid instruments loaded.

Now install the "Nord Electro Tool v3.0" application and use it to download the new "Piano Sample Library v3.0".

4. New Features

  • The Rotary Speaker simulation was tuned to give a slightly brighter sound.
  • The organ and piano section now has individual settings for the effects On/Off parameter. This makes it easier to use the "instrument selector" to switch between organ and piano sounds since the effects routing is remembered.
  • Three different settings for the "Rotary Speaker" acceleration and retardation was implemeted. A setting of "1" corresponds to the previously used characteristic.

5. Fixed Bugs

  • Reloading a Program with the instrument selector set to Organ and then changing the selector to Piano didn't load the piano sound selected when the program originally was stored.
  • Setting the organ split point manually didn't always work.
  • A small bug regarding the Clavinet filters was fixed.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 MIDI Related

6.1.1 The Update Utility cannot Find the Nord Electro

If the update utility shows the message "No Synth Found", it cannot find a Nord Electro connected to the selected MIDI port, please try the following actions:
  • Make sure that the Nord Electro is turned on.
  • Make sure your MIDI interface is properly installed and is using the latest driver.
  • Check that the MIDI cables are properly connected.
  • Make sure you have chosen the MIDI ports that the Nord Electro is connected to in the update utility.

6.1.2 Download Fails

If the utility seems to download the new OS but the Nord Electro doesn't receive it, please try the following action:
  • Try with the "safe (dump slower)" option enabled, some MIDI interfaces handles SysEx data poorly and may work better with this option enabled.

6.2 If None of the Tips Above Help

Follow the instructions on the Clavia Technical Support web page: www.clavia.se
